Fragments IX explores the tension between concealment and revelation—between what lies beneath the surface and what gradually emerges into light.
The composition is built from layered fields of deep brown, muted teal, charcoal, and warm ivory. At its center, a luminous passage opens through the darker surrounding tones, creating a sense of distance, atmosphere, and quiet emergence.
A heavily textured horizontal band crosses the painting like a geological fault or weathered threshold. Its dense, tactile surface contrasts with the softer, more atmospheric passages above and below, giving the work a strong physical presence.
Scraped marks, layered pigment, granular textures, and subtle variations in color reveal traces of earlier surfaces beneath the final composition. The result feels both ancient and contemporary—as though a forgotten wall, landscape, or memory has been partially uncovered.
Fragments IX is about the beauty of what remains visible after layers have been worn away: traces, scars, openings, and fragments that continue to tell a story.
