About the Artist

Corina Ioana is a Romanian-American contemporary artist based in California, originally from Transylvania. Working across abstract painting, mixed media, sculpture, photography, and material-based installation, her practice explores transformation, memory, resilience, and the traces we leave behind.

Nature plays a central role in her work. Drawn to weathered surfaces, organic forms, trees, flowers, stone, and reclaimed materials, she investigates the connections between the human experience and the natural world. Her photographs often reveal figures hidden within landscapes and trees, while her paintings evoke erosion, emergence, and the layered histories embedded within material surfaces.

Known for her tactile and highly textured works, Corina incorporates materials such as sand, stone, wood, cement, jute, glass, and reclaimed elements to create pieces that exist between painting and object. Through building, scraping, staining, concealing, and revealing, she develops surfaces that feel excavated rather than painted—records of time, vulnerability, and transformation.

Her artistic journey has been shaped by continual reinvention. After leaving Romania in her early twenties as a single mother, she rebuilt her life across Europe and later in the United States while continuing to create through sewing, furniture restoration, jewelry making, interior design, photography, and painting. Studies in visual arts, photography, jewelry design, and interior design further expanded the multidisciplinary foundation of her practice.

Today, Corina develops original collections for private collectors, contemporary interiors, hospitality environments, and public spaces. Her work has been exhibited nationally and recognized through juried exhibitions, international art platforms, and curatorial features.

At the heart of her practice is a belief in transformation—not as a single event, but as an ongoing process of becoming. Through texture, surface, abstraction, and nature-inspired imagery, she seeks to create works that invite reflection, resilience, and a deeper awareness of the beauty that exists within change.

For Corina, art is more than an object. It is evidence of presence—a trace of having seen, felt, endured, and transformed.

Artist Statement

Creating has always been my way of understanding the world.

Through abstraction, texture, and material exploration, I investigate transformation, memory, resilience, and the traces we carry beneath the surface. I am drawn to materials that bear evidence of time—weathered, fractured, layered, and altered by pressure—because they mirror the human experience.

Nature has long been a source of inspiration in my work. Whether through photography, sculpture, or painting, I am fascinated by organic forms that suggest both landscape and body, growth and erosion, presence and absence. Flowers, trees, branches, and textured surfaces become visual metaphors for resilience, emergence, and renewal.

My process is physical and intuitive. I build, scrape, erode, stain, conceal, and reveal. Each work develops through cycles of accumulation and disruption, allowing unexpected forms and meanings to emerge over time.

I work with raw and reclaimed materials not only for their tactile qualities, but for what they suggest emotionally: history, imperfection, survival, and renewal.

I do not search for perfection.

I search for presence.

For something honest, resilient, and deeply felt.

Each collection becomes a record of transformation—both personal and universal—and an invitation to consider what emerges when we trust the process of becoming.

Ultimately, my work is an act of leaving a trace: a material record of having been here, of seeing, feeling, enduring, and transforming. Through texture, surface, and abstraction, I seek to create not only images, but evidence of presence.

Current Series/Collections

Validation Is for Parking

A bold exploration of self-belief, resilience, and creative conviction. These works embrace texture, gesture, and emotional intensity as a declaration of presence. Created from the belief that artists are not made through validation, but through the courage to continue showing up and doing the work.

Echoes: Tension & Light

A collection exploring the dialogue between energy and stillness, light and shadow, chaos and harmony. Through layered surfaces and luminous forms, these works evoke movement, resonance, and the unseen forces that connect us.

Fragments

Inspired by archaeology, erosion, and material memory, Fragments explores what remains after time, pressure, and transformation. Layered with jute, sand, stone, and reclaimed materials, the works feel unearthed rather than created.

Luminous Becoming

A meditation on emergence and transformation. Gold leaf, glass, epoxy, vine, and carved wood interact with light to create dimensional works that explore growth, luminosity, and the process of becoming.

Structural Presence

Where architecture meets abstraction. Through layered materials and sculptural surfaces, these works investigate foundations, resilience, and the quiet strength found within structure and form.

Strata

Inspired by geology and constructed landscapes, Strata explores the accumulation of time through layered textures, cement, stone, and reclaimed elements. Each work reflects the tension between permanence and change.

Diva Collection

A celebration of feminine power, confidence, and individuality. Vibrant colors, layered surfaces, and iconic imagery transform contemporary divas into symbols of strength, glamour, and self-expression.

The Eruption of Her

A four-part collection created during a pivotal year of artistic and personal transformation. Moving from breath to silence, emergence to revelation, these works explore what rises to the surface when we trust the process of becoming.

Vestiges

Vestiges explores excavation, erosion, and human presence through layered textures and archaeological surfaces. Fragments of stone, jute, and weathered materials become vessels for memory, resilience, and discovery.
