Rooted - Ancient Trees of Memory and Renewal

Viewed from below, these ancient trees rise beyond the frame, inviting the viewer upward with the same sense of wonder that has inspired my photography for more than three decades. Long before they emerged on canvas, weathered trunks, twisted branches, and their quiet presence became part of my visual memory—collected one photograph at a time.

After thirty years behind the camera, those memories now return from the “garden of my studio” as paintings. ROOTEDtransforms trees into sculptural, emotional presences through layered acrylic, molding paste, glazing, and mixed media. Textured bark, weathered surfaces, moss, branches, and blossoms become metaphors for resilience, memory, transformation, and renewal.

Each work begins with observation but evolves through intuition, material, and emotion. Built through layers, texture, and carefully revealed surfaces, these trees are neither portraits of specific places nor literal landscapes. They are imagined spaces where nature becomes a living archive—holding traces of time while continuing to grow, reach, and transform.
